I stayed here on my first trip to Marrakech back in 2013 and it’s an absolutely beautiful property, operating very much on the B&B or guest house end of the scale, as I believe the owners lived there as well. So it was a bit like staying in someone’s home.

We had a lovely meal on the first night, with wine that we’d brought with us. You can’t buy wine in the riad but they’ll happily let you bring some in. There are very complicated licensing laws in Morocco! Apologies for the image quality, but here’s the starter selection we were served…between two of us…followed by a main course and pudding. There was an awful lot of waste but that’s often the case in Morocco, they practically throw food at you (but it’s delicious food, so could be worse!).
The problem that we had, and one of the reasons I didn’t stay there again, was that we seemed to get lost every time we left – or tried to find – the riad! However, this really wouldn’t be a problem now as by the power of google maps, one need never get lost again. I really don’t have encyclopedic knowledge of the medina but, if I’m honest, probably isn’t my favourite end of it but – in the interests of balance – I just did get a bit lost there, so may possibly feel differently about it now. Not sure.

I came across Riad Monika on a holiday/villa rental website, and I think they often hire out the entire place, which actually would be pretty amazing. There are 7 rooms, so it would be a really nice size for that.
I wouldn’t not recommend Monika, because it was great and the manager was lovely, but I think it might be somewhere more for older people or families.
